• About Branston

Traditionally each year’s elected golf captains decide on a charity to support with fund raising events as leaders of Branston Club’s golfers. Social & golfing events are established at which members and guests, together with visiting golfers, can help raise funds concentrating their efforts on a single aim. To these can be added personal challenges by each of the captains.

2017 saw Captains Steve Fox and Charlotte Barker raise over £14k for their chosen charity Help For Heroes, supported capably by the charity's area representatives Dean Williams and Paula Allen.

'Steve and Charlotte along with their friends and families from Branston Golf and Country Club went above and beyond the normal commitments of fundraisers raising a phenomenal amount of money for Help for Heroes' said Dean Williams, H4H Central England Regional Manager.

'Their money means that we have a foundation to plan for the future so we can supply sustainable and long-term support to the wounded, injured and sick military community. With over 200 brave service personnel being medically discharged every month, there is still a huge amount of work to be done to ensure that each and every one of them is offered a second chance in life' commented Dean.

'At Help for Heroes we focus on the five key areas of Medical, Mind, Body, Spirit and Family and our specialist teams create the conditions for our heroes and their families to recover and move forward with their lives'.

'I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Branston Club but especially the Captains for what they’ve done over the last year, they have really embraced this opportunity to be part of The Force for Goodand to ensure that Help for Heroes can continue rebuilding lives.' added Dean Williams.

During the year Charlotte & Steve took on a 1,000 mile challenge by running and golfing over nine months ending in the New York Marathon last November. They completed this grueling challenge with the help of Pete Barker and accompanied by fellow golf members Pete and Bev Doughty.

In addition to their physical challenge they also raised funds through a club charity day, various raffles, promise auctions and a Venetian Masquerade Ball all heavily supported by family and friends.

'Our thanks go to all those that participated and supported this mammoth achievement including Branston Golf Club and Branston Pavilion staff , vice captains Mike Doyle & Jane Docksey, outgoing captains Steve Warner and Jenney Hollis, President Rob Sanders and both committees for their continuous support without whom our achievements would not have been possible' said Charlotte Barker.
