Past Captains V Burton GC Past Captains

The gents played the match away at Burton on a lovely Sunday afternoon in October and managed to get a result of 5 to 1 in Branston's favour. The matches were generally close with one exception, but more importantly played in an excellent spirit.

Again as is tradition there was a lovely meal with good company and a willingness to continue the friendly rivalliary that has defined both clubs over a number of years, and long may that continue.

Captain v vice-Captain Match

Now this was a little bit of a let down in what has been overall a fantastic year for me.!

I thought I had picked a far superior side to my friend the vice-Captain, but in hindsight I should have insisted on a random drugs test on some of Mr Fox’s players as I’m sure he was handing out little blue tablets and pints of Guinness before his team went out to play, therefore I do feel there is is a good explanation as to why I LOST! HOW?

Greenkeeper’s Revenge 2016

Congratulations to the winners, hope everyone found it both interesting and fun. Thanks to Gavin and his team for having such a strange sense of humour, and in setting the course up to such a fascinating challenge.

Rusty Duck Match

Unfortunately due to some heavy morning rain, I got a phone call from our director of golf to ask me what I thought about the Rusty Duck competition. Based on his advice and the on coming weather forecast I felt it would be better to cancel it early rather than get people turning up and finding the course possibly closed and with no opportunity to make further plans for them to fill their day.

In hindsight that may have been a little hasty and I can only apologise for my hurried decision, sorry to all who were due to play.

Mixed Match v Horsley Lodge GC

A lovely friendly game between to nice clubs, a fixture that is getting better each year. There were eight pairs from each team, and the match was followed by a meal afterwards.

Branston managed to win the match 5/3, but unfortunately both Jenney and I lost to Wyn and Ann the Horsley Captains who played very well between them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who celebrated both Linda’s & My 60th Party.

A special thank you from me to Linda & Carole, for there organisational skills and planning in making it such a special night for us both.

To Maxine for her usual exceptional cakes, beautiful....Thank You. Max..

And to you all who donated to the Alziemer's Society, we raised a lovely amount for which I am truly very grateful.

Junior Presentation Evening

Could I make a heartfelt plea to all members and friends who can please support the Juniors Presentation Evening.

It is being held on Friday 11th November starting at 6.30pm prompt.

Past Lady Captains Day

It was a lovely day for the Branston Past Lady Captains with a great win for Jane Winn with Chris Pettitt as runner-up and in third place Bec Brookes. The competiton was followed by a meal where we were joined by Past Lady Captains Cob, Monica and Wendy. A special mention goes to Trish Lee who joined us, all the way from France, for the first time in eight years.

Lady Captain v Lady vice-Captain

Commiserations to Lady Captain and her team and congratulations to Lady vice-Captain and her team who won by rather a large margin on the day. Thanks also to Lady vice_Captain Chalotte Barker who presented both teams with goody bags full of an assortment of sweets.

Pink Ribbon Day

What a great day with a field of 29 teams playing. A donation was made to the Pink Ribbon Charity from the entry fees collected.

Congratulations to the winners who were on a score of 106: David Lawrence; Karl Richardson; Andy Bishop; and Nina Snelson. The runners-up were Robert Hardie, Peter Bartlett, Mark Wilcox and Jo Hardie with 101, winning on count back. There were three other teams also on a score of 101, but without naming them all many congratulations and bad luck on just missing out on countback.

There were 116 people who took part in a fun, friendly mixed competition, these are the special days which make Branston a unique and friendly club to be a member of. Hope you all enjoyed the day. Many thanks to Lady Captain Jenney, Trudie Hanson and the other members of the Ladies Committee who organised a successful event raising some money towards the Breast Cancer Charity.
